Is the Catholic church true?

No, the Catholic Church isn't true. I'm tired of reading the hate messages directed towards the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So, I'm going to pick apart the religions of those who say that The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints isn't the true church.
Let's take a look at some of the Catholic's beliefs. You Catholics think our church is hard to believe. You haven't seen anything yet. Peter was what you Catholics call the founder of the Catholic Church. Show me where the word Catholic Church is found in the Bible? The church if Jesus Christ was called simply that. The church of Jesus Christ. Anyone, I have asked many Catholics why it is that they believe that Peter is the founder of the original church and why they don't believe in the apostasy. They usually pull out Matthew 16:18 which states, "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Catholics, who have no idea how to read and understand scriptures think that Jesus is saying tha Peter is the rock and that the church id formed around him. If that were the case the church would be called the church of Peter. Was Peter perfect? Did Peter save us? Are we baptized in Peter's name? NO, because he was imperfect,a and a servant of the Lord. He served the Lord's church. Peter was chosen by Jesus, not Jesus by Peter. Let's examine the scripture shall we? O.K. Something significant is to look back when Kesus was first introduced to Jesus. Jesus changes his name to Cephas, meaning stone or pebble. It doesn't mean rock at all. Jesus said that of himself I am the rock, and you are Peter(pebble or stone). Let's examine the greek text of that scripture. Peter in greek is petros meaning small rock. Rock is petra menaing rock or bedrock. Rocks are bigger than stones or pebbles. NOw you Catholic geeks are probably wondering if there is a scripture that says that Jesus is the rock, and you know what? There is, how nice. 1 Corinthians chapter 10, verse 4. If you read verses one through four you'll see that Paul clarifies who Jehova is. Jehova is Jesus before Jesus was born. That's a whole other topic. In verse four it says that they "drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. So Peter, even though he was important, he wasn't the "Rock". BUt since the Catholic Church is uninspired, and lacking God's authority and revelation they have no way of knowing what's true and what's not. Can you show me Catholic geeks where it says the pope or arch bishop is mentioned in the BIble? What's that? You can't ? No, I can't believe it. Ephesians tells us why Christ had different offices of the Priesthood. The priesthood, by the way, is the authority to act in God's name. Ephesians chapter 4:11-12. "And He gave some, apostles, and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;" And pay attention you Catholic geeks, he tells us why He has these offices in the priesthood in the next verse. "For the perfecting of the Saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Chrsit. Since you don't know what some of these words mean I will tell you. Saints are the members of the church of Christ. Here apostles and Saints are mentioned in the same scripture. You Cathoic geeks think that Saints are the apostles, and you are sadly mistaken. There is no scriptural proof of that. The body of Christ is the Church of Christ. Did the need of prophets and apostles expire? You dorky Catholics might think so but again you don't know that much. YOu follow some vain old man in Italy who lives in a gold palace. Read on in verse 13. "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man,..." So, you see, we still need apostles, and prophets, because it was prohesied that geeky selfish weirdos would create their own religion to justify their selfish desires. The Pope-ster lives in a gold Palace. Did Jesus live in a palace? Nope. Were any of the apostles rich? nope. They were poor and had close to nothing. They feasted literally on the word of Christ. Try it! You might like it. You don't have to be poor, just humble. You Catholic dorks are brain washed into doubting everything that isn't Catholic related. The lame brains behind the scheme you call a religion don't won't you to find the real truth. Why do you pray? Why do you fast? Why do you go to church? Is it o.k. to go to mass for an hour and then go get drunk and beat your wife? No, but you Catholics do it. Christ should be your example. You wear a commercialized piece of gold shaped in the form of a cross, and you wear it so people will see it. God can see who you really are. Catholics are taught what to do. When really Jesus teaches us who to be. Are we supposed to pray to the Virgen? No, becuase she's not God, and she has no more power than you or I have. She wasn't perfect and you crazy if you think she was.

Awesome comment, bro! I don't know who you were talking to, but right on. Way to get some good solid Word in there!

Okay, a few responses. I'm

Okay, a few responses. I'm not Catholic, but I'm going to a catholic school, so I'll give a few responses. You had very good scriptural proof for a lot of things in the Catholic church. The word Catholic, however, simply means Universal. You're right that the basis for the pope was in Jesus stating that Peter was "the rock". "pebble" or not, it doesn't seem to make a difference to me whether or not Peter was a big or small rock. If Jesus called himself a rock, and then Peter a pebble, wouldn't that in a way be a Better reason for acknowledging that Jesus wanted the church in Peter's hands? Jesus is essentially calling Peter a little "piece" (pebble) of Him!! Pebble or boulder, Jesus clearly shows his desire for the church to be in Peter's hands.
Okay, for the papacy, I myself do not necessarily agree with having a pope simply dressed in robes in a very expensive parlor. The idea behind it, I suppose, was to have a universal church. (It doesn't seem to work for me, though, because you can't have someone in Rome who really knows what's going on in the rest of the world). I'm a little concerned with the way that you bash Catholics, though. I can't believe that you would assume that Catholics all go to mass on Sunday and then promptly go home and beat their wives. Nor do all Catholics simply "wear a commercialized cross". If you really DID believe that, then I would have to assume that you are extremely ignorant. What you were probably pointing toward was the hipocracy in the Catholic church. I agree. There is huge hipocracy. As there is in ANY church!! It is a problem when people attend church as a RELIGION versus a relationship with our lord and savior Jesus Christ. It is not our job, however, to judge who is where in their relationship with God. The reality is, the man who beats his wife is loved just as much by God as you or I.

If the Pope speaks directly

If the Pope speaks directly to God, then why does he use a bullet proof car? Faith would say that it was either Gods will or God would divert the bullet.

im 18, born into the church

im 18, born into the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, deciding whether or not to go on a mission.
i can truthfully say that reading these comments have furthered my disilusionment with, and sometimes hatred of, the members of this church.
Attacking catholicism, so disgustingly self-righteous. Were mormon doctrine as mindless and vain as your comments i would not only disafect, but devote two full years to preaching AGAINST it.
I hope youre all just 10 years old and too ignorant to realize that comments like YOURS are harsher than any anti-mormon literature.

thank you for contributing to the destruction of the little fath I have left.

It can be frustrating to read

It can be frustrating to read negative things about the LDS Church but we should be mindful of how we speak to others about the choices they have made in life. We are not to be confrontational and use name calling in our repies to others. do you think Christ would ever call and of us geeks? I htink not. Even if it was in a humorous mannor I doubt we would hear those types of things said to us

I wish to speak lightly. If

I wish to speak lightly. If you do not want to go on your mission for you, don't get pressured into it. It is a decision that you alone can make. I have too many near-relatives that went for the wrong reasons and apostatized later because of it. It is 2 years of work, not leisure. Please, read the Book of Mormon completly through before you make any decision about a mission. I am just starting to read it to prepare for my mission. The only way you can go out every day and teach effectivly is to believe it yourself. I have several friends currently on their missions. They have helped strengthen my faith more than anything. The way of the church is humility. It is the foundation almost all of the principles in Gordon B Hinkleys "Standing for Something" [definitely recomended reading by me]. I pray for peace in your heart. I wish to leave you with my favorite scripture. It speaks mounds in just 8 words:

(Book of Mormon | Jacob 6:12)

12 O be wise; what can I say more?

If you were talking to me,

If you were talking to me, thanks, nice thought. I'm not really so offensive or angry most of the time. I just stumbled on this website on what happened to be a bad day. If I go on a mission, it will be my decision... and im not so disaffected as stated before. It honestly does, however, make it difficult to "stand for something" (namely this church) when so many of its members are bashing other religions.

I agree. I wish more people

I agree. I wish more people could overlook others hypocrasies until they correct their own. Go with God.

its a shame u are going to

its a shame u are going to let these people ruin your chances of going on a mission. you should let the holy spirit guid you and help you decide

You have your opinion. And,

You have your opinion. And, praise God, I have mine. We could sit here all day and argue or debate about your Religion vs. mine. What I find interesting, and it just basically confirms my reality of how truly blinded, misguided, and uninformed you really are. And, I will add, your character and comments are not at all reflective of "Christian" love and acceptance. I teach Religion in a Catholic School. I will continue to pray for those of you who despise the cross of Christ. Jesus and the cross go hand in hand. Without this symbol of complete love, unselfishness, and total sacrifice we would not have the gift of eternal salvation. May the peace of Christ be with all of you!! Hopefully, you too will find it.

to mr.18 disilusionment.

to mr.18 disilusionment. Sometimes the truth stings and sometimes things need to be said. The fellow who defended Mormonism was maybe a little hot...but even Christ became angry and turned over tables and he was PERFECT. If you think that the Gospel of Christ was preached without any verbal attacks on other faiths, you would be wrong. Christ attacked the religion of the Pharisees regularly. Would you have thought Christ unchristian? I'm positive you would. He did this attacking in defense of truth though because he did not draw first blood. So hating mormonism because of defenders speaking their mind is so silly. This war of words is just a continuation of the war in heaven. Dose truth matter? I challenge you to put yourself in the shoes of a Pharisee and see if the Gospel of Christ would have offended you. Christ himself said his gospel would turn brother against brother, father against son, etc. etc. People do not like being corrected! But tuth can be spoken in BOLDNESS. Dont speak at all if you do not KNOW from God what truth is.

reply to grapeape.

reply to grapeape. Confrontation of the facts/truth is what it's all about. It started in the war in heaven and the discussion continues. Name calling may not be nice but Christ did indeed do it and he was perfect. He called his enemies fools, devils, dogs, and swine and these were very religious leaders and followers. His name calling was discriptive of his enemies and if it's true then is it rude? Is calling someone a "geek" worse than "fool" or "dogs"? A person just better speak in truth if they do decide to call names. Calling something like Mormonism a "devilish cult" when it is not will bring you under condemnation because it puts you in opposition to God and his true church. You would be an anti Christ if you persecuted and fought against it. The question "is it true?" needs to be asked by each individual. Ask God if your faith in it is justified. We Mormons are not afraid to ask God this question because we do not fear the answer he gives.
